I am often asked when I discovered I could write. I would have to say it was when my 10-year-old self was daydreaming in class, preferring to read and write rather than do math or science.
It was the time that my teacher sent me to the headmaster to show him the story I had written, only to be accused of plagiarism. I didn’t even know what the word meant.
Unknowingly, I had written a similar story to a book I had never read and made it my own.
That book was called, “Mr Bee and The Honey,” and that is all I can remember of it.
Experiences like that can crush a child, but I thank God for my Aunt who, on recognizing my ability, took me to an Auckland University Writers Group, where at 12, I was by far the youngest attendee.
But it wasn’t until many years later, that I finally started to write novels.
One morning in April 2017, I was reading my Bible and came across a word I had not noticed before – BERYL. As I have read the Bible cover to cover many times, I must have read that word but never 'seen' it. Out of natural curiosity, I went hunting for that word and found it appears in the Bible eight times. I discovered that each time it appears, it tells of mankind’s journey on this earth and God’s response and plan. The urge to write the stories I saw with Beryl would not leave me. Thus, the “I Am Beryl” books were born.
My husband Stan knows to leave me alone when I am in a writing phase. What a wonderful man. Just as well, he can cook and do the housework!
To live in the Heavenly realms when I write is wonderful, for that is where my inspiration comes from.
Since writing the first ‘I Am Beryl’ book, I have written four other books and co-written one, and I continue to write.

You will not regret it!
